Medium Picture Large Picture Comments: Ex RAF FD789, painted in fictitious RAF marks CR496 for its role as Winston Churchill’s transport in the movie The Eagle Has Landed. It became EI-BDU on 18/10/78, restored as G-AKNB on 29/1/82, before going to the USA as N59NA on 22/7/85. It still flies (with its original USAAF serial) as 42-32817/3J-B, with the name Bones, in spurious D-Day colours.

Medium Picture Large Picture Comments: Of a total of 11 Nimrod MR2s converted for the ill-fated AWACS project, this was the first to fly. Following the cancellation of the project in December 1986 due to technical problems and severe cost over-runs, all of the airframes were reduced to produce as a spares source for the remaining Nimrod fleet. XZ286 was scrapped at Abingdon in 1991, with the rear section going to RAF Kinloss for ground instruction.
